The Global Business Centre helps Calgary businesses establish contacts and investment opportunities in international markets. The following programs and services are available for local businesses:

Foreign Procurement

  • Provision of relevant economic data and information
  • Availability temporay office and meeting space
  • Connections to suppliers

Mentorship Program

  • Sharing of “know how” and best practices to early stage exporters to facilitate the process of exporting opportunities
  • Connections to experienced exporters

Trade Missions

  • Lead strategic trade missions to targeted international locations and businesses
  • Host and organize targeted business networking for incoming international missions

Business (B2B) Matching

  • Local companies will have the opportunity to meet with International companies visiting Calgary individually and at networking events
  • Based on the specific needs of your organization the Global Business Centre will strive to find the best suited companies to connect with your business

Breakfast Club

  • Monthly speaker series providing information on relevant trade and international issues. Speakers may be from international companies, government (i.e. consulate/embassy representative), or businesses that provide trade services.

Expert Know-How

  • Monthly video-conference or teleconference on-site with international trade experts that can provide insights on cultural norms, business practices, as well as current business trends in selected countries

Networking Opportunities

  • Global Business Centre will facilitate introductions between foreign and local companies so they can partner on international opportunities.
  • Proactively seek international opportunities for local companies to access. Opportunities may be in the form of trade leads, procurement opportunities, expansion of foreign operations into Alberta, or new business trends emerging in foreign markets that match the technology or service niche of Southern Alberta companies.

Educational Seminars

  • The Global Business Centre will provide seminars on issues relating to international trade. Topics may include cross-cultural communication, effects of an economic downturn, the importance of market diversification, the benefits of joint ventures, working with foreign companies, foreign direct investment and becoming part of a global value chain.

Certification Program

  • The Global Business Centre will host educational seminars leading to trade certification

Office Space

  • Temporary office space is available for international business visitors. Space is to be used by international business visitors or delegations currently working with the Global Business Centre stakeholders, as well as Southern Alberta companies. Space may also be used by Global Business Centre stakeholders such as federal or provincial counterparts and Southern Alberta municipalities.
  • Longer-term office space is available for global value-chain and international procurement offices of large companies or governments

Room Rentals

  • Boardroom space is available for international visitors, trade associated meetings or events
  • Boardroom rental fees will be applied, as will teleconferencing or videoconferencing fees when applicable

Presentation venues

  • The Global Business Centre will provide space and will assist in promoting international trade seminars to companies in Southern Alberta

Interpreters & Translators

  • The Global Business Centre staff can connect you with the most qualified interpreters and translators in Calgary.
